The next resort we want to take a look at is, Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. Bay
Lake Tower sits right next to the Contemporary on Bay Lake and provides tremendous views of the Magic Kingdom, especially at the Top of the World Lounge. Bay Lake Tower shares the same modern feel and design of the Contemporary that has made it a timeless classic.
The 428 villa, Bay Lake Tower opened August 4th, 2009 after over a decade of planning. In 1996 Disney closed the North Garden Wing of the Contemporary and fenced off the area before gaining approval to sell 75 DVC units in 1997 at “Kingdom Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort.” However, the project wasn’t officially revealed to the public until September 16, 2008. Timeshares were sold September 28th, 2008 to existing DVC members and October 5th, 2008 to new members. Bay Lake Tower opened to mixed reviews in terms of the architecture of the building, many have said that it is too large and somewhat takes
away from the A-frame classic Contemporary Resort. While other absolutely love the addition to the landscape of the Magic Kingdom Resort Loop. The Resort is also available to a limited number regular cash reservations, so if you are not a DVC member but want to enjoy the resort you are able to.
The unique “u” shape of the resort gives very unique floor plans for each room. For instance some of the villas located near the top of the tower have a full two-story window that provides jaw-dropping views of the Magic Kingdom from floor to ceiling.
The biggest draw to the resort has to be its extremely close proximity to the Magic Kingdom and the views of Wishes. The Top of the World Lounge sits atop Bay Lake Tower on the 16th floor and is DVC Members only. A cast member stands at the bottom of the elevator to verify your membership and then allows you access to the rooftop. A tip for non-DVC Members who want to go up is to act
interested in purchasing DVC at the kiosk in the lobby and towards the end ask if you can see the roof and more times than not they will say yes and let you up to the top of the world! The Top of the World Lounge offers an array of drinks, appetizers, and desserts to go along with your spectacular view. From the rooftop you can see all 4 theme parks including the peaks of Expedition Everest, Spaceship Earth, and Tower of Terror just to name a few. At night you can have a spectacular view of Illunminations, but the headliner is Wishes. Much like California Grill and Ohana the sound is synched to the entire rooftop area during the show including the parts of the roof not inside of the lounge. For a truly spectacular view of the parks this is a MUST do and is easily the highlight of the resort.
The resort also boasts its own private swimming area for Bay Lake Tower guests only. The pool
area is quite small but very nice with an outdoor bar area as well as a 20 foot tall water slide. Staying here also gives you access to everything the Contemporary has to offer and the two resort are connected via the “sky bridge” walk way. So if you are staying at Bay Lake head over to the Contemporary and check out their pools, marina, and arcade. You can also pop over for breakfast at Chef
Mickey’s or dinner at the California Grill. You also have easy access to the Magic Kingdom Resort Loop Monorail system and can easily take advantage of everything on the Seven Seas Lagoon.
The inside of the rooms are absolutely amazing, very similar to the Contemporary in theming, but everything is brand new. Quite possibly the nicest rooms on property.
If on your next trip you want to be as close to the Magic Kingdom as you can be, than Bay Lake Tower is the resort for you!
