Top 5 Alcoholic Beverages at the 2014 Flower & Garden Festival

The Flower & Garden Festival has always been a time to stop and smell the roses (literally and figuratively) but in 2013 it became a time to taste the fresh flavors of spring. The Flower & Garden Festival has become a sort of miniature Food & Wine Festival with a spring flare and much lower crowds. Today we are going to focus on the best of the best alcoholic drinks and treats available at the Flower & Garden Outdoor Kitchens.

Honorable Mentions:

Frambuesa Margarita (Jardin de Fiestas, Mexico)

Raspberry Margarita on the rocks

The Frambuesa was good but it was a little too sweet for my taste in Margarita, but a nice refreshing drink to walk around the countries on a hot day (which will be a theme in most of these drinks). The main thing holding me back on this drink would be the fact that La Cava De Tequila is so close by with a superior margarita.

The Frambuesa Margarita was light and refreshing but La Cava has still got this one beat pretty easily

Orange Mango Slushie (Hanami, Japan)

Frozen blend of Nigori Sake, Mango, and Orange Juice for a refreshing fruit flavor

The Orange Mango Slushie was very tasty and was the perfect drink to sip on when you only have the shade from a Bonsai Tree. The main ingredient missing that kept it out of my top 5 was…could not taste any liquor whatsoever. If I am paying 8.50 for a slushie I want it to pack a little bit more punch, but overall quite tasty.

Delicious and fruity but didn't pack a big punch

5) Kung Fu Punch (Lotus House, China)

Vodka and Triple Sec with Mango and Orange Juice

Extremely refreshing with just the right combination of mango and orange juice. I was skeptical when I first tried it that it would be far too sweet, but I actually found it just right and the vodka adds just the right kick to it to enhance the flavor even more. I would classify this drink as highly dangerous because they are so refreshing I’m not sure you even realize you’re drinking.

So smooth you barely know you are drinking at all

4) Florida Avenue Blueberry (Florida Fresh)

Cold Storage Craft Brewery, Tampa, FL

This beer was the PERFECT combination with a Watermelon Salad. Great blueberry flavor but not overpowering. Perfect to walk around with for a while and sip or just order a few a find a seat because it is the perfect beer to drink while you eat the light food flavors of World Showcase during Flower & Garden. Would be my official beer of the 2014 Flower & Garden Festival.

3) Hurricane Class 5 Sangria (Florida Fresh)

Florida Orange Groves, St. Petersburg, FL

Again at the Florida Fresh stand is the Hurricane Class 5 Sangria. Maybe not a fan favorite but I put it above all of the rest at Flower & Garden when it comes to sangria. At 3.25 per glass these babies are economical and delicious. The Class 5 is just sweet enough but it doesn’t overwhelm you or make you feel like you’re drinking juice like some others I won’t mention (cough, Morocco, cough). One of these days I am going to make the whole 45 minute trek from Tampa to St. Petersburg and check out where this stuff is made and maybe buy out their stock.

When you head to Florida Fresh be sure to grab a Class 5 Sangria

2) Dole Whip with COCONUT Rum ( Pineapple Promenade

Pineapple Soft Serve with Parrot Bay Coconut Rum

The title speaks for itself, I mean come on it’s a Dole Whip with rum. It was far and away my favorite in 2013 and the only reason it wasn’t my number one in 2014 is I remembered it so well from 2013 I was already expecting it and shock factor of wow Dole Whip and rum was gone. Trust me if you have yet to have one you will never have a Dole Whip again without saying man I wish there was rum in here. However fair warning stay away from Dole Whip and dark rum they just do not pair nearly as well together.

1) La Vie en Rose Frozen Slush (Fleur de Lys)

Vodka, Grey Goose Orange, St. Germain Liqueur, White and Red Cranberry Juice

The France Pavilion just seems to have the best frozen alcoholic drinks no matter what the occasion. The La Vie en Rose Frozen Slush is absolutely delicious, being a frozen drink it is perfect for spring in Florida but the cranberry, Grey Goose mix was the first drink I had this year and it was the best one I had as well. The taste was so good that I didn’t care I was drinking a hot pink frozen fruity beverage out of a tall margarita like glass in France.
